Barcelona's service design conference is back

For over a decade, a service design conference in Barcelona brought brilliant minds to our doorstep, built a strong community, and helped establish service design as a discipline for transformation.

But the world has shifted, challenging service design to prove it can be both meaningful and valuable. Service Design Disrupted names that moment: the need to understand where you are, what is changing, and what you are going to do next, so you can move forward with intent.

Same community, same commitment to quality. Still in Barcelona. With a renewed sense of purpose.

Event part of the official programme of:

Barcelona Design Week

BDW is one of the leading global design weeks since 2006, that brings together over 100 activities across the city to showcase design’s social and economic impact.

Disruption creates possibility,if you know how to navigate it

Opportunities don’t come from just witnessing change. You need to know where you stand within it, and decide what to do next. We help you explore this through three interconnected lenses:

What's reshaping our world

External forces are reshaping our world, and service design within it: technology, AI, economic pressure, and shifting definitions of value and even what is human. Understanding what will lastingly change how we work means cutting through the noise and developing the strategic awareness to see what actually counts.

This track focuses on making those forces tangible: real shifts, real implications, and the trade-offs they create for teams and organisations.

So you can go from reactive to strategically equipped.

The future of our practice

As the context evolves, so does service design itself: its role, its boundaries, its relationship to other disciplines. This track looks at the field in motion: where it is creating value today, where it is struggling, and what new forms it might take.

Through concrete examples, perspectives, and models, it’s about taking a position on what the field should fight for, what it needs to embrace, and what it risks losing if it doesn’t.

From questioning relevance to recognising where service design is heading, and what that means for how we practice it.

Our individual paths forward

When the field shifts, so do the expectations placed on you. What skills count, what roles are relevant, and what direction makes sense are no longer obvious.

For many, the constant need to prove value and the feeling of being stuck or isolated leads to exhaustion.

This track is designed to help you move from reflection to decision: to understand where you stand, what you want to build, and how to move forward with intent. With renewed purpose, concrete steps, and the reminder that you’re not navigating this alone.

Two days where conversation becomes action

Service Design Disrupted takes place at the DHub, one of Barcelona’s most striking cultural spaces, and the home of the Barcelona Design Week. It’s a fitting setting for an event that is designed to help you move forward on your own terms.

The programme brings together a carefully curated mix of established voices and emerging talent: people who are exploring like yourself. Over two days you’ll find keynote talks, in-depth conversations, hands-on workshops, and dedicated time to connect with the people in the room. It starts with an opening party, and the social thread runs through everything.

And if you’re making the trip, you’ll be arriving into one of Europe’s leading design weeks with over 130 activities including exhibitions, talks, and installations across the city.

Breakout workshops happen during the conference itself; they are 2.5 hours long, tied to one of the three conference themes, and included in every conference ticket.Satellite workshops happen the day before or after, on 14 and 17 October, hosted by some of our speakers. They're not necessarily tied to the conference themes: some extend what that speaker is already doing on stage, others draw on their own area of expertise. They're a separate ticket from the conference, so a conference ticket doesn't include them, and a satellite workshop ticket doesn't include the conference. If you want both, the bundle gets you the satellite workshops at a reduced price.
